MARVIN & GIGI

the proposal

 

For their first Valentine’s Day in 2006, Marvin surprised Gigi throughout the day with roses.  The meaning of a red rose is love and a white rose is purity.

 

The first surprise was when Gigi returned to her college dorm from her first class, Marvin had 3 red roses and a letter waiting for her at the reception desk.  Later on that day, Marvin handed Gigi 2 red roses when he picked her up at her cousin Pazong and Paee’s apartment for dinner at Troppo.  After they finished dinner, Marvin tricked Gigi into thinking they were going to the park for a late night run.  Marvin did such a great job of tricking her that she even started to stretch!  What she didn’t know was Marvin had candles, a blanket, and 1 white rose waiting for her near a park bench.  Gigi was relieved to find out they weren’t running after all and they spent the night talking on the park bench with lit-candles buried in the snow at their feet.      

 

Fast-forward 7 years later, Marvin decided to use the same “rose surprise” on Gigi’s 25th birthday.  When Gigi woke up, she had 3 red roses lying on the floor outside of her bedroom.  Since Marvin tricked Gigi into thinking he was in Chicago for the weekend, she was shocked to later see him in her house as she was about to leave for her birthday dinner with her friends.  Marvin, of course, had 2 red roses with him.     

 

Marvin then took Gigi for a ride, blindfolding her to Onxy Ice Arena where she used to practice figure skating.  He rented the whole skating rink for an hour and once he took the blindfold off of her, they started skating around together. Gigi was a little confused as to why all of her plans with her friends were cancelled and how she ended up at her childhood ice skating rink alone with Marvin, but went along with it. He started talking about how crazy it was that they've been together for 7 years and if she knew what the number 7 meant in the Bible. She admitted to not knowing and so he proceeded to explain that the number 7 meant "completion and perfection.” He then got down on one knee, took out 1 white rose hidden in his back with his left hand, took out the engagement ring in his pocket with his right hand, and asked her to marry him. After an emotional few minutes, Marvin told Gigi to turn around and gathered at the entrance of the rink were her family and friends.
